So by now everyone probably knows about the new highway from San Jose to Caldera, making the trip to Jaco Beach less than an hour. A lot of people roll their eyes when they hear that the road is nearly complete, since talk about this highway has been around for over ten years, but don’t be mistaken it is nearly complete.[...] Just recently some reporters from Inside Costa Rica were able to pass through and take a rare drive through the new highway. You can see video of the highway here New Highway
The road is completely asphalted, it is just missing the final touches of completing the road markings, some of the barriers and of course, and the toll stations. The highway is supposed to be open by March 2010. It took only 13 minutes to drive from Piedades de Santa Ana to 8 kilometres east of Orotina (the guard at that check point did not allow passage), driving at an average 60 kilometres per hour. There is no doubt that this is going to be an enormous boost for the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica. I’m excited to see the transition and experience the impact made on our beachtown.
