![]() All of us who live in Costa Rica know very well, football/futbol (what we call soccer in the U.S.) is kind of a big deal here. Today is one of those days when the majority of Costa Ricans will take a few hours off to watch the national team, as Costa Rica plays host to Spain, winners of the last years world cup. Costa Rica takes its football very seriously................. in fact, just recently some officials attempted to pass legislation to make today an official holiday in order for public employees to receive the day off and either attend or watch the event. Spain will be heavily favored against Costa Rica as they look to bounce back from a recent loss to England. The Costa Rica team is also coming off a loss, recently losing to Panama 2-0. Hosting a world champion team, one such as prestigious as Spain is a tremendous achievement for Costa Rica. With a new National Stadium in the capital of San Jose, Costa Rica has been able to draw much bigger teams, already this year they have also hosted the Argentina national team.
